Issue 8 – Take Off

It’s exciting times for Europlanet. The joint meeting of the Europlanet Science Congress (EPSC) with our colleagues at the American Astronomical Society’s Division for Planetary Sciences (DPS) in Helsinki this September promises to be one of the largest meetings on planetary science held to date in Europe.

We are now one year into operations as a fully self-sustaining non-profit association. Following the end of our last grant from European Commission in July 2024, we have been working hard to continue our core services. If you haven’t noticed a change – that’s great news! Our flagship Transnational Access programme for researchers to visit state-of-the-art laboratories in Europe and around the world are ongoing, as is the Planetary Geological Mapping (GMAP) Winter School. The Europlanet Early Career Network (EPEC) is going from strength to strength. You can read all the latest news in the ‘In Focus’ section.

This issue is themed around engagement with industry, a cornerstone of Europlanet’s strategy for delivering sustainable research infrastructure for the planetary community. Articles share perspectives from researchers who have developed successful routes into industry and from companies that have benefited from involvement with planetary science. We hope you find them interesting and inspiring. The Last Word column this edition is by the Europlanet Vice-President, Stavro Ivanovski, who reflects on two decades of Europlanet and looks forward to the road ahead.

Anita Heward, Editor.
