Summer School – Machine Learning in Solar and Planetary Research

EPEC – Machine Learning WG Summer School 2026

Dates – 16th – 18th September 2026

Location – Primorsko, Bulgaria

The Space Research and Technology Institute (SRTI) – Bulgarian Space Agency is excited to announce a summer school focused on Machine Learning, in collaboration with Europlanet Early Career Network and the Europlanet Machine Learning Working Group.

The Summer school is planned from 16th to 18th of September 2026 and will be held at Primorsko, Bulgaria.

The summer school is open Early Careers – anyone currently enrolled or has completed their degree in the last 7 years.

Programme

The Summer school will focus on Core Machine Learning Techniques.

Accomodation

12 early careers will get accomodation stipends up to 180 €.

Reaching Primorsko

The easiest way to reach Primorsko is:

Flight to International Burgas Airport (BOJ).

Тo get from Burgas Airport (BOJ) to Burgas South Bus Station (Avtogara Yug).

1. By Public Bus (Line No. 15) – The Best & Cheapest Option

Bus Stop Location: The bus stops right outside Terminal 2 during the summer season, or at the roundabout at the airport entrance (about a 250-meter walk from the terminal building).
Travel Time: Approximately 25 to 35 minutes.
Destination: The bus drops you off directly at South Bus Station (Terminal Yug), which is also located right next to the Central Railway Station.
Schedule & Frequency: Buses run every 15 to 30 minutes throughout the day, starting around 05:00 AM until just after 11:00 PM.
You buy the ticket inside the bus from the conductor. Note: If you have very large suitcases, you may need to purchase an extra ticket for your luggage.

1.2 By Taxi

Taxi Rank Location: Official taxis are parked right outside the Arrivals terminal.
Travel Time: Around 15 minutes.
Cost: Always check the price per kilometer printed on the car window before getting in, or ask the driver for an estimated fare to the city center.

2. Burgas South Bus Station (Avtogara Yug) to Primorsko

To get from Burgas South Bus Station (Avtogara Yug)to Primorsko, the most convenient and affordable option is to take a direct regional bus.

Departure Location: Buses depart from Sector 6 at Burgas South Bus Station, which is located right next to the Central Railway Station.

Bus Carriers: Routes are primarily operated by regional transport companies such as M-Bus and Ekspresbus-Kiten.
Travel Time: The journey takes approximately 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes.
You can purchase tickets directly from the bus driver upon boarding or at the bus station cash desks.
Frequency: During the peak summer travel season, buses run frequently (roughly every hour). In the off-season, schedules are reduced. You can check live departures at the information desk or verify via regional aggregators like BusExpress.
Arrival: You will arrive at the Primorsko Bus Station (located on Treti Mart Street).

2.1 By Taxi

Departure Location: You can find official taxi ranks right outside the South Bus Station terminal.
Travel Time: Approximately 45 to 50 minutes via the main seaside road (Route 99).
Always agree on the fare with the driver or ensure they turn on the taximeter before departing.
