Transnational Access (TA)

Transnational Access (TA)

Europlanet provides FREE access to planetary simulation and analysis facilities.

  • Distributed Planetary Laboratory Facilities (DPLF) to enable the simulation or characterisation of planetary conditions and materials.
  • Planetary Field Analogues (PFA) to support current and forthcoming missions to Mars, the Moon and the icy moons of Jupiter.

Europlanet’s Transnational Access (TA) programme supports all travel and local accommodation costs for European and international researchers to visit these facilities and field sites.

  • You can submit proposals to the TA programme through annual calls.
  • The TA programme can support up to two researchers for each visit and covering a time-period ranging from a few days to several weeks.
  • While the Europlanet TA programme is designed to primarily support planetary science, applications from other research disciplines will also be considered based on innovation and potential scientific and technological impact.
  • Payment of expenses for the TA visit will only be processed after the production of a written report on the visit, as proof that the visit was conducted.

Proposals will be evaluated by a peer review process.

Why Participate in Europlanet Transnational Access?

Evaluation of 197 Europlanet Transnational Access visits supported through the Europlanet 2024 Research Infrastructure (RI) showed that:

  • 91% of TA hosts & visitors planned future research activities together
  • 66% of TA participants reported that their visits led them to consider new research questions or lines of research
  • Over 50% of TA visits were by early careers and provided opportunities that would not otherwise be available to them
  • Over 300 publications are anticipated on the results of the visits.
