TA2 Facility 32 – Automated Optically Stimulated Luminescence system (South Korea)

Average visit: 7 days

Features:

  • Automated 48-position sample changer
  • Vacuum chamber (lowest P. < 0.2 mbar)
  • Beta irradiator: Sr-90, 40 mCi, 80 mCi
  • Shaped Kanthal heater strip, endpoint T: 700oC
  • Optical stimulation source: IR LEDs (870 nm), Blue-LEDs (470 nm), Near UV light
  • Fully automated Detection and Stimulation Head (DASH)

Application:

  • Numerical dating of Quaternary sediments
  • Dating archaeological artifacts (e.g. potteries)
  • Dating geological stuff related to Quaternary (active) faults
  • Analysis of luminescence characteristics of phosphor minerals
  • Development of analytical procedures to improve the reliability of luminescence dating techniques
